How often should HVAC be serviced?
Once a year is a good baseline for most homes. Systems that heat and cool, like heat pumps, benefit from a check before each main season.
- Gas furnace: once a year, ideally before the heating season
- Air conditioner: once a year, ideally before the first hot spell
- Heat pump or ductless system: before each main season, since it runs year-round
What does an HVAC tune-up include?
- Filter checked and replaced, with the right size noted for next time
- Burners, ignition and safety controls checked on furnaces
- Refrigerant-side operation checked on air conditioners and heat pumps
- Condensate drain checked and cleared
- Electrical connections and components inspected
- Thermostat operation confirmed
- A plain-language summary of anything that needs attention
Why regular maintenance matters
- Small problems are caught before they become breakdowns
- Safety controls on gas furnaces are checked
- The system keeps running the way it was designed to
- Filters and drains are kept clear, which protects the equipment
What you can do between visits
- Check the filter every month and replace it when it looks dirty. How often depends on the filter type, so follow the filter maker’s guidance.
- Check more often during wildfire-smoke season.
- Keep plants, leaves and stored items clear of the outdoor unit.
- Pay attention to new noises, smells or weaker airflow, and call before a small problem grows.
Will you try to sell me things I do not need?
No. There are no commissioned salespeople here. If something needs attention, you get a clear explanation and written options, and you decide whether and when to fix it. We service all major brands, including systems we did not install. See AC tune-ups and HVAC maintenance.
